"Sometimes in life there really are bonds formed that can never be broken. Sometimes you really can find that one person who will stand by you no matter what. Maybe you'll find it in a spouse and celebrate it with your dream wedding, but theres also the chance that the one person you can count on for a lifetime, the one person who knows you sometimes better than you know yourself is the same person who's been standing beside you all along." - Bride Wars

| I FEEL SO CONFUSED, AND JUST JUMBLED, AND YUCK. Have you ever missed someone so much that you begin to doubt their existence? You can see their face vividly, and hear their voice and remember their laugh, but it's distant, almost like you are borrowing someone else's memory, or confusing someone from the television with someone you really know. I can't explain. It's odd. I always do this to myself and it hurts. Anyone know what I mean? Sigh. I am trying to be better and I know that I am because it's a different kind of sadness. Still. It sucks. Oh and seriously, the only excuse for wearing fur is if you are the animal it belongs to. Just stop it. It makes me sick. RANT OVER.
“I am not worried, Harry,” said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. “I am with you.” - Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince +++ Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half their greatness goes unnoticed. It is all part of the fairy tale. - The Last Unicorn
The trees wave, the clouds pass. The time approaches when these soliloquies shall be shared. - The Waves +++ The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure. - Severus Snape
She was beautiful, in the quiet way that lonely, unnoticed people are beautiful to those who notice them. - Jedediah Berry
+++ In my life why do I give valuable time to people who don’t care if I live or die? - The Smiths
You know that moment that comes when the last tear falls? The one when you realize that your worst fears have come to light and you’re still breathing? Never forget the moment you look into the mirror and into your red eyes and see that you aren’t broken or weak or lost at all. You are thin skin over steel. - Unknown +++ She said she thought that most geniuses were lonely. I said I thought everyone was lonely. That even the Moon is lonely, and that’s why it pulls on the tides. - The Unicorn Diaries
Oh, don’t go on like that! Consider what a great girl you are. Consider what a long way you’ve come to-day. Consider what o’ clock it is. Consider anything, only don’t cry! - Through The Looking-Glass +++ Maybe I’m dreaming you. Maybe you’re dreaming me; maybe we only exist in each other’s dreams and every morning when we wake up we forget all about each other. - The Time Traveler’s Wife
It’s a wonder I’m even alive. Sometimes I think that. I think that I can’t believe I haven’t killed myself. But there’s something in me that just keeps going on. I think it has something to do with tomorrow, that there is always one, and that everything can change when it comes. - Augusten Burroughs +++ If you expect nothing from somebody you are never disappointed by them. - The Bell Jar
Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all, those who live without love. - Albus Dumbledore +++ But when it came right down to it, the skin of my wrist looked so white and defenseless that I couldn’t do it. It was as if what I wanted to kill wasn’t in that skin or the thin blue pulse that jumped under my thumb, but somewhere else, deeper, more secret, and a whole lot harder to get. - Sylvia Plath
We melt into each other with phrases. We are edged with mist. We make an insubstantial territory. - The Waves +++ I am a lesbian and I was walking through a busy town holding my girlfriend's hand. As usual, we were glared at and yelled at a lot. Then we passed a woman walking with her daughter, who was maybe 7 years old. The little girl asked her mom why two girls were holding hands, and we heard her say after we passed, 'Because they love each other'. - Unknown
Let me tell you this: if you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it’s not because they enjoy solitude. It’s because they have tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them. - Jodi Picoult +++ My hands tend to be full enough dealing with people who hate me for who I am. Concentrate too hard on the millions of people who hate you for what you are and you’re likely to turn into one of those unkempt, sloppy dressers who sag beneath the weight of the two hundred political buttons they wear pinned to their coats and knapsacks. - David Sedaris
All of us take pride and pleasure in the fact that we are unique, but I’m afraid that when all is said and done the police are right: it all comes down to fingerprints. - David Sedaris +++ I am taking a calculated risk. What's the upside? I overcome my nausea, fall deeply in love, babies, normalcy, no more self loathing. Downside? I, uh, date Michael Scott publicly and collapse in on myself like a dying star. - Jan, The US Office
When we come face-to-face with one down a dark alley, we’re going to be having a look to see if it’s solid, aren’t we? We’re not going to be asking, 'Excuse me, are you the imprint of a departed soul?' - Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince +++ “Dumbledore’s man through and through, aren’t you, Potter?” “Yeah, I am,” said Harry. “Glad we straightened that out.” - Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince
I just loathe homophobia. It’s just disgusting and animal and stupid and it’s just thick people who can’t get their heads around it and are just scared. - Daniel Radcliffe +++ Am I going to tell them? No, I am not going to tell them. I don't see the point of that. As a doctor, you would not tell a patient if they had cancer. - Michael Scott
I guess I'm learning, little by little, that we decide what our lives are going to be. Things happen to us, but it is our reactions that matter. - Felicity +++ It's hard to be disappointed when what you expected turns out to be true. - 13 Reasons Why
Holding anger is a poison. It eats you from inside. We think that by hating someone we hurt them, but hatred is a curved blade, and the harm we do to others, we also do to ourselves. - The Five People You Meet In Heaven +++ Show me the books he loves and I shall know the man far better than through mortal friends. - Dawn Adams
If there's a tomorrow when we're not together, there's something you must always remember. You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is even if we're apart; I'll always be with you. - Winnie the Pooh +++ When you lose somebody, you think you've lost the whole world as well. But that's not the way things turn out in the end. Eventually, you pick yourself up and look out the window and once you do, you see everything that was there before the world ended is out there, still. There are the same apple trees, and the same song birds. And over our heads, the same very sky that shines like heaven. So far above us that we can never hope to reach such heights. - Walt Disney
People think they know all these things about other people, and if you ask them why they think they know that, it’d be hard for them to be convincing. - Elliott Smith +++ In the old days, if someone had a secret they didn’t want to share, they went up a mountain, found a tree, carved a hole in it, and whispered the secret into the hole. Then they covered it with mud, and left the secret there forever. - Unknown

Some kid today asked me why I’m always so miserable. I told him I didn’t know. He asked me why I despised everyone around me, and why I’d always find a negative comment about everything. I told him I didn’t know. I think that’s the worst, not even knowing why you’re not happy anymore. - Unknown +++ Sometimes it's the smallest decisions that can change your life forever. - Felicity
No, I'm not attacking you. I'm trying to be honest, just hear me out. You and I are a team. Nothing is more important than our friendship. - Monsters, Inc. +++ At a certain part in your life, probably when too much of it has gone by, you will open your eyes and see yourself for who you are. Especially for everything that made you so different from all the awful normals. And you will say to yourself, "But I am this person." And in that statement, that correction, there will be a kind of love. - Phoebe In Wonderland
I guess when your heart gets broken, you sort of start to see the cracks in everything. I'm convinced that tragedy wants to harden us, and that our mission is to never let it. - Felicity +++ I've become a real believer in not defining every single thing. Seems like everytime you think you've figured out what something is, it just becomes something else. - Felicity --------------------------------------------------------
Ice-cream and Will & Grace, I think. Night night, darlings. :) (COMMENT AND SUBSCRIBE PLEASE. It's like magic update-quick medicine.) | | |
| Sorry, sorry that I haven't replied to all comments. I got a little confused. Forgive me? I mixed the weeks up and now I have to wait another 10 days for BS to get back, worse that I feared. Sigh. It's hard not having someone to email if things go terribly. Still, I shall remain positive. :)
Sometimes it's a form of love just to talk to somebody that you have nothing in common with and still be fascinated by their presence. - David Byrne +++ You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you. - Walt Disney
I would like to believe this is a story I'm telling. I need to believe it. I must believe it. Those who can believe that such stories are only stories have a better chance. If it's a story I'm telling, then I have control over the ending. Then there will be an ending, to the story, and real life will come after it. I can pick up where I left off. – The Handmaid’s Tale +++ Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness. – Marianne Williamson
They were careless people. They smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together and let other people clean up the mess they had made. – The Great Gatsby +++ Isn’t it nice to know that you haven’t yet laughed, all that you’ll laugh? That you haven’t yet met, some of your very best friends? And that you haven’t yet dreamed, all that you’ll manifest? That all bridges will be mended? That all sadness will be healed? And that life never ends? That all of your challenges will be won? That all of your triumphs will be shared? And that the difference you’ll make, has already begun? Well, it is for me, because I also know that if you don’t see these things yet, you will. Could it get any better? – The Universe
It made me wonder how many times we forgive just because we don’t want to lose someone, even if they don’t deserve our forgiveness. – Sarah Dessen +++ This has everything to do with him. This is about knowing the difference between right and wrong, between the truth and a lie. He took that from you and if you can't tell the difference, then you can't trust anyone. And if you can't trust, you can't love. – Georgia Rule
Maybe a happy ending doesn't include a guy, maybe... it's you, on your own, picking up the pieces and starting over, freeing yourself up for something better in the future. Maybe the happy ending is... just... moving on. Or maybe the happy ending is this, knowing after all the unreturned phone calls, broken-hearts, through the blunders and misread signals, through all the pain and embarrassment you never gave up hope. – He’s Just Not That Into You +++ I have a feeling I get watching jaws, when the men are in the little boat in the middle of the dark sea, drunk and singing, and it’s cozy and fun, and the fantasist in me hopes that in this version of the film the shark will decide he’s not evolutionarily advanced enough to hold a grudge against a bunch of humans and he’ll swim away and no one will get eaten. I watch, knowing the worst is a certainty, but still faintly believing I might have the one dud tape for those sensitive souls who can’t face reality. – Running In Heels
It's been said that seeing is believing. But the fact is, we all have our blind spots. Sometimes we recognize them ourselves. Sometimes others recognize them for us, distance has a way of distorting the things we see, but what appears as an obstacle may in fact be an opportunity. The trick is having enough faith to carry through. – Everwood +++ With him, life was routine. Without him, life was miserable. – To Kill A Mockingbird
Maybe that whole love thing is just a grown-up version of Santa Claus; just a myth we've been fed since childhood. So, we keep buying magazines, joining clubs, and doing therapy and watching movies with hit pop songs played over love montages all in a pathetic attempt to explain why our love Santa keeps getting caught in the chimney. – Kate & Leopold +++ A relationship, I think, is like a shark, you know? It has to constantly move forward or it dies. And I think what we got on our hands is a dead shark. – Woody Allen
I felt very still and very empty, the way the eye of a tornado must feel, moving dully along in the middle of the surrounding hullabaloo. – Sylvia Plath +++ We have become a sloppy bunch of people. We say things we don't mean. We make promises we don't keep. "I'll call you." "Let's get together." We know we won't. On the Human Interaction Stock Exchange, our words have lost almost all their value. And the spiral continues, as we now don't even expect people to keep their word; in fact we might even be embarrassed to point out to the dirty liar that they never did what they said they'd do. So if a guy you're dating doesn't call when he says he's doing to, why should that be such a big deal? Because you should be dating a man who's at least as good as his word. – Greg Behrendt
There are those hearts that never mend again once they are broken. Or if they do mend, they heal themselves in a crooked and lopsided way, as if sewn together by a careless craftsman. – The Tale Of Despereaux +++ I know exactly how that is. To love somebody who doesn’t deserve it. Because they are all you have. Because any attention is better than no attention. For exactly the same reason, it is sometimes satisfying to cut yourself and bleed. On those gray days where eight in the morning looks no different from noon and nothing has happened and nothing is going to happen and you are washing a glass in the sink and it breaks-accidentally-and punctures your skin. And then there is this shocking red, the brightest thing in the day, so vibrant it buzzes, this blood of yours. That is okay sometimes because at least you know you’re alive. – Running With Scissors
How could she feel nostalgia when he was right in front of her? How can you suffer from the absence of a person who is present? – Milan Kundura +++ When was the last time you wanted to say it all to the right person? To have it all come out right, to surprise yourself at how together you could be. When was the last time you ever met someone who made you want to give it all to them? I mean give yourself to them. Where you couldn’t express yourself enough - like you wanted to cut off one of your arms to be understood. That’s it - you would cut your head off to have someone understand you. You know how pointless that one is. You know how many times you’ve smashed yourself to bits on the rocks. – Henry Rollins
That’s important. Take it from someone who knows. My mom used to tell me that whatever you do, marry someone who loves you more than you love him. – The Guardian +++ To him she seemed so beautiful, so seductive, so different from ordinary people, that he could not understand why no one was as disturbed as he by the clicking of her heels on the paving stones, why no one else’s heart was wild with the breeze stirred by the sighs of her veils, why everyone did not go mad with the movements of her braid, the flight of her hands, the gold of her laughter. He had not missed a single one of her gestures, not one of the indications of her character, but he did not dare approach her for fear of destroying the spell. - Gabriel Gárcia Márquez
Listen, I've been married for twenty-five years to the same wonderful, infuriating woman. And granted there are days when I want to light her on fire, but I don't, because I love her. And that would be illegal. And you know something, I might be old-fashioned but when I said those vows, I meant them. – What Happens In Vegas +++ I've never understood why people insist on saying things like, 'There's plenty of other fish in the sea.' My mum actually said that to me, you know, after I was dumped by the person formerly known as 'My boyfriend'. There's me crying my heart out and all she was offering me in the way of consolation was a fish metaphor. - My Legendary Girlfriend
When you see something from afar, you develop a fantasy. But when you see it up close, 9 times out of 10, you wish you hadn't. – Wicker Park +++ Why must you lead, when I want to lead? If I want to dance I will ask you to dance. If I want to speak, I will open my mouth and speak. Everyone is forever plaguing me to speak further. Why? What good is it to tell you, you are my every thought from the time I wake? What good can come from my saying that sometimes I cannot think clearly or do my work properly? What gain can rise of my telling you the only time I feel fear as others do is when I think of you in harm? That is why I am on this porch. I fear for your safety before all others. And yes, I will dance with you on our wedding night. – The Village
Reality was stubborn for sure, but it was large and it had possibilities. It was a sweet relief when you let it come. – Ann Brashares
+++ Everything will turn out the way you want, if you stop doubting that I love you. – The Science Of Sleep
As corny and Hallmark-y as this is going to sound, I am just finally understanding that when you choose to let people into your life, you accept the bad and the good. I guess you've just got to deal with it, because you can't spend the rest of your life being isolated. Just remember that everyone, no matter who they are, manages to leave a mark on your life... They make you who you are. Thank them. – Christina Treco +++ I don't know. It's like, when I'm with you, I just, I never know what's going to happen next. It's weird, because my life is so planned out. It's like, you don't care what people think. And when I'm with you, I don't care what people think. – Crazy/Beautiful
I’m just saying, you know, you can’t know who that person is… the person who will become your ultimate confidant, your soul mate, or your lover. He may be that guy you had your eye on for years, or he might be that guy standing next to you in torn jeans buying some part of his motorcycle. Whoever it is, he starts off as a stranger, so he could be anymore. - Felicity +++ A lie has speed, but truth has endurance. - Edgar J. Mohn
If you can find him, then he can find you. If he wants to find you, he will. - He's Just Not That Into You +++ I want your company. The pleasure of your company. I want your input on video rentals. I stand there for hours, I can't pick anything out. I want someone to say goodnight to, a last call of the day. - Bounce
The trouble is, humans do have a knack for choosing precisely those things that are worst for them. - Albus Dumbledore +++ Boxing is an unnatural act. Cause everything in it is backwards. You wanna move to the left, you don't step left, you push on the right toe. To move right, you use your left toe. Instead of running from the pain--like a sane person would do, you step into it. - Million Dollar Baby
Good friends share more than just gossip and brunch. They share enemies too. - Desperate Housewives +++ If at large gatherings or parties, or around people with whom you feel distant, your hands sometimes hang awkwardly at the ends of your arms— if you find yourself at a loss for what do with them, overcome with sadness that comes when you recognize the foreignness of your own body— it’s because your hands remember a time when the division between mind and body, brain and heart, what’s inside and what’s outside, was so much less. It’s not that we’ve forgotten the language of gestures entirely. The habit of moving our hands while we speak is left over from it. Clapping, pointing, giving the thumbs-up: all artifacts of ancient gestures. Holding hands, for example, is a way to remember how it feels to say nothing together. And at night, when it’s too dark to see, we find it necessary to gesture on each other’s bodies to make ourselves understood. - Nicole Krauss
----------------------------------------------------- I had to completely redo this post because my computer is being beastly. Next post is going to be dedicated to my heroes. :) Tell me a few of yours? Any - celebs, relatives, friends. I shall honour them in the update. I think it'd be nice, ya know? If not then that's okay. Comment, my hearties? I promise to return them this time. :) | | |
| Alright, Bobby Davro. Everyone is away at the moment. It feels incredibly lonely. I might start opening my happy letters soon. Perhaps one a week. I'll explain tomorrow. Here you go. :)
We just get the one life, you know. Just one. You can't live someone else's or think it's more important just because it's more dramatic. What happens matters. Maybe only to us, but it matters. - Ghost Town +++ My whole life has been nothing but a hole, where my mother should have been. It always left me aching, but I never thought about what it did to you. - The Secret Life Of Bees
A worker bee weighs less than a flower petal, but she can fly with a load heavier than her. But she only lives for or five weeks. Sometimes not feeling is the only way you can survive. - The Secret Life Of Bees +++ Miss May, I know you get real sad sometimes. My daddy never feels. He never felt anything. I would rather be like you. - The Secret Life Of Bees
You measure yourself by the people who measure themselves by you. - The Bucket List +++ Even now I cannot understand the measure of a life, but I can tell you this. I know that when he died, his eyes were closed and his heart was open. And I'm pretty sure he was happy with his final resting place, because he was buried on the mountain. And that was against the law. - The Bucket List
We've pretended for some time now that you're a part of this family, haven't we? You've come to mean so much to us all that now, it doesn't matter if it's true. And even if it isn't true, even if that can never be... I need to go on pretending... until the end... with you. - Finding Neverland +++ When the first baby laughed for the first time, the laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about. And that was the beginning of fairies. - Finding Neverland
I was hopelessly naive when I married you. I imagined that brilliant people disappeared to some secret place where good ideas floated around like leaves in autumn, and I hoped at least once you would take me there with you. - Finding Neverland +++ I couldn't even kill myself the way I wanted to. I had power over nothing. - Cast Away Well that's where we are. You say we're on the brink of destruction and you're right. But it's only on the brink that people find the will to change. Only at the precipice do we evolve. This is our moment. Don't take it from us, we are close to an answer. - The Day The Earth Stood Still
+++ History has lessons to teach us about first encounters between civilizations. As a rule the less advanced civilization is either exterminated or enslaved. I'm thinking of Pizarro and the Incans, Columbus and the Native Americans, and the list goes on. Unfortunately in this case, the less advanced civilization is us. - The Day The Earth Stood Still
That's true. But still, there is another side. You see, I... I love them. It is a very strange thing. I... I... I can't find a way to explain it to you. For many years I cursed my luck for being sent here. Human life is difficult. But as this life is coming to an end... I consider myself lucky... to have lived it. - The Day The Earth Stood Still +++ I'm not gonna do it, because it'll hurt! Sometime or other there'll be, you know "it's not working," or "I need my space," or whatever it is and it will end and it will hurt, and I won't do it. - Last Chance Harvey
Good afternoon. My name is Edward Cole. I don't know what most people say at these occasions because in all honesty, I've tried to avoid them. The simplest thing is I loved him and I miss him. Carter and I saw the world together, which is amazing when you think that only three months ago we were complete strangers. I hope that it doesn't sound selfish of me, but the last months of his life were the best months of mine. He saved my life, and he knew it before I did. I'm deeply proud that this man found it worth his while to know me. In the end, I think it's safe to say that we brought some joy to one another's lives, so one day, when I go to some final resting place, if I happen to wake up next to a certain wall with a gate, I hope that Carter's there to vouch for me and show me the ropes on the other side. - The Bucket List +++ Everything you said is true. Everything. I married you even though I didn't love you. But you knew that. Aren't you as much to blame for what's happened as I? - The Painted Veil
Women are always under the impression that men love them more that they really do. - The Painted Veil +++ It was silly of us to look for qualities in each other that we never had. - The Painted Veil
You find a glimmer of happiness in this world, there's always someone who wants to destroy it. - Finding Neverland +++ I knew, somehow, that I had to stay alive. Somehow. I had to keep breathing. Even though there was no reason to hope. And all my logic said that I would never see this place again. So that's what I did. I stayed alive. I kept breathing. And one day my logic was proven all wrong because the tide came in, and gave me a sail. - Cast Away
Death of a loved one can lead people to do the strangest things. - The Others +++ You'd rather focus on other people's Kodak moments than make memories of your own. - 27 Dresses
You write the most beautiful things. Do you actually believe in love and marriage and just pretend to be a cynic or are you actually a cynic who knows how to spin romantic crap for girls like me? - 27 Dresses +++ I barely know you. I don't know your dad's first name, I don't know if you ever wore braces, or contacts, or glasses and I have no idea how you came to be a wedding planner, Mary. But I do know the curves of your face. And I know every fleck of gold in your eyes. I know that the night at the park was the best time I've ever had. - The Wedding Planner
Y'know, "those who can't do, teach"? Well those who can't wed, plan. - The Wedding Planner +++ Oh no, darnit... I just remembered that I promised my friend's brother's godmother that I would help her change her fax cartridge because she's going out of town tomorrow... on an African safari. - The Wedding Planner
Mary, I know I never done the right thing, say the right thing. I know I act like a fool. I know say we'd be buddy-buddy friends, but that would not be true to my heart so I'll ask this one question, and if you answer "no" I'll leave you alone once and for all. Be my wife, Mary Fiore. If you answer yes, I'll take care of you, be true to you, and like this house I built for your dolls, I'll make sure you have a strong roof over your head. If you answer yes then no one will love you as much as I love you. If you answer yes then you will make me the happiest man on earth. - The Wedding Planner +++ But you know, why would you want to dance with someone who doesn't want to dance with you? - The Wedding Singer
It doesn't matter how young or old you are, you sold your soul! You're the ugliest thing that ever lived, and you know it. - Hocus Pocus +++ How are we supposed to grow up if we're not allowed to go into the world, try new things and take some risks? - Halloween Town
Magic is really very simple, all you've got to do is want something and then let yourself have it. - Halloween Town +++ I need someone who believes that anything is possible. Do you believe that? - Kalabar's Revenge
Grandma says being normal is vastly overrated. - Kalabar's Revenge +++ I may feel sorry for you, and I may want to help you. But I am not afraid of you. - Kalabar's Revenge
Once upon a time, in a magical kingdom known as Andalasia, there lived an evil queen. Selfish and cruel, she lived in fear that one day her stepson would marry and she would lose her throne forever. And so she did all in her power to prevent the prince from ever meeting the one special maiden with whom he would share true love's kiss. - Enchanted +++ Everybody has problems. Everybody has bad times. Do we sacrifice all the good times because of them? - Enchanted
Don't you know that dreams are fragile things? - A Troll In Central Park +++ We lose more women to marriage than war, famine, and disease. - 101 Dalmations
-------------------------------------------------------- I must admit that these quotes seem to come from many of my childhood favourites. I'm counting down the days until my loved ones return. Hurry back, sweeties.
Please subscribe and comment. It makes me smile. :) | | |
| Hello darlings. Sorry, I know that some of these are repeats, but I want to make sure all of my images make it onto the site by the end of the Summer. Bear with me, eh? I'm trying to mix it up a bit. This is a Lemony Snicket post. Oh yes. :) Enjoy.
Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like. - Lemony Snicket +++ Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them. - Lemony Snicket
People aren't either wicked or noble. They're like chef's salads, with good things and bad things chopped and mixed together in a vinaigrette of confusion and conflict. - The Grim Grotto +++ Wicked people never have time for reading. It's one of the reasons for their wickedness. - Lemony Snicket
A good library will never be too neat or too dusty, because somebody will always be in it, taking books off the shelves and staying up late reading them. - Lemony Snicket +++ All the secrets of the world are contained in books. Read at your own risk. - Lemony Snicket
You know that a good, long session of weeping can often make you feel better, even if your circumstances have not changed one bit. - The Bad Beginning +++ I don't know if you've ever noticed this, but first impressions are often entirely wrong. - The Bad Beginning
A man of my acquaintance once wrote a poem called "The Road Less Traveled", describing a journey he took through the woods along a path most travelers never used. The poet found that the road less traveled was peaceful but quite lonely, and he was probably a bit nervous as he went along, because if anything happened on the road less traveled, the other travelers would be on the road more frequently traveled and so couldn't hear him as he cried for help. Sure enough, that poet is dead. - The Slippery Slope +++ When some is crying, of course, the noble thing to do is to comfort them. But if someone is trying to hide their tears, it may also be noble to pretend you do not notice them. - Lemony Snicket
I will love you as the iceberg loves the ship, and the passengers love the lifeboat and the lifeboat loves the teeth of the sperm whale, and the sperm whale loves the flavor of naval uniforms. - The Beatrice Letters +++ They didn't understand it, but like so many unfortunate events in life, just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't so. - The Bad Beginning
As I am sure you know, when people say "It's my pleasure", they usually mean something along the lines of, "There's nothing on Earth I would rather do less. - The Penultimate Peril +++ It is difficult, when faced with a situation you cannot control, to admit you can do nothing. - Lemony Snicket
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you, and there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself. - Lemony Snicket +++ Right, good temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant. - The Reptile Room
A successful villain should have all these things at his or her villainous fingertips, or else give up villainy altogether and try to lead a life of decency, integrity, and kindness, which is much more challenging and noble, if not always quite as exciting. - The Grim Grotto +++ Is it useful to feel fear, because it prepares you for nasty events, or is it useless, because nasty events will occur whether you are frightened or not? - Lemony Snicket
Those unable to catalog the past are doomed to repeat it. - The End +++ One can remain alive long past the usual date of disintegration if one is unafraid of change, insatiable in intellectual curiosity, interested in big things, and happy in small ways. - The Penultimate Peril
To hear the phrase "our only hope" always makes one anxious, because it means that if the only hope doesn't work, there is nothing left. - The Blank Book +++ Instead of the word 'love' there was an enormous heart, a symbol sometimes used by people who have trouble figuring out the difference between words and shapes. - The Carnivorous Carnival
Whenever you are examining someone else's belongings, you are bound to learn many interesting things about the person of which you were not previously aware. - The Blank Book +++ A new experience can be extremely pleasurable, or extremely irritating, or somewhere in between, and you never know until you try it out. - The Blank Book
Wishing, like sipping a glass of punch, or pulling aside a bearskin rug in order to access a hidden trapdoor in the floor, is merely a quiet way to spend one's time before the candles are extinguished on one's birthday cake. - Lemony Snicket +++ It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try to readjust the way you thought of things. The Baudelaire orphans were crying not only for their Uncle Monty, but for their own parents, and this dark and curious feeling of falling that accompanies every great loss. - The Reptile Room
Sooner or later, everyone's story has an unfortunate event or two...The solution, of course, is to stay as far away from the world as possible and lead a safe, simple life. - The End +++ 'Xenial' is a word which refers to the giving of gifts to strangers... I know that having a good vocabulary doesn't guarantee that I'm a good person... But it does mean I've read a great deal. And in my experience, well-read people are less likely to be evil. - The Slippery Slope
Miracles are like pimples, because once you start looking for them, you'll find more than you ever imagined possible. - The Lump Of Coal +++ Grief, a type of sadness that most often occurs when you have lost someone you love, is a sneaky thing, because it can disappear for a long time, and then pop back up when you least expect it. - The Carnivorous Carnival
There are many, many types of books in the world, which makes good sense, because there are many, many types of people, and everybody wants to read something different. - The Bad Beginning +++ For obvious reasons, I never told you about my notebook, with a cover as green as mansions long ago, which I use as a commonplace book, a phrase which here means 'place where I have collected passages from some of the most important books I have read.' - Lemony Snicket
Today was a very cold and bitter day, as cold and bitter as a cup of hot chocolate, if the cup of hot chocolate had vinegar added to it and were placed in a refrigerator for several hours. - Lemony Snicket +++ Of course, it is quite possible to be in the dark in the dark, but there are so many secrets in the world that it is likely that you are always in the dark about one thing or another, whether you are in the dark in the dark or in the dark not in the dark, although the sun can go down so quickly that you may be in the in the dark about being in the dark, only to look around and find yourself no longer in the dark about being in the dark, but in the dark in the dark nontheless, not only because of the dark, but because of the ballerinas in the dark, who are not in the dark about the dark, but also not in the dark about the locked cabinet, and you may be in the dark about the ballerinas digging up the locked cabinet in the dark, even though you are no longer in the dark about being in the dark, and so you are in fact in the dark about being in the dark, even though you are not in the dark about being in the dark, and so you may fall into the hole that the ballerinas have dug, which is dark, in the dark, and in the park. - The End
Reading is one form of escape. Running for your life is another. - Lemony Snicket +++ It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things. - Lemony Snicket
Everyone should be able to do one card trick, tell two jokes, and recite three poems, in case they are ever trapped in an elevator. - Lemony Snicket +++ Taking one’s chances is like taking a bath, because sometimes you end up feeling comfortable and warm, and sometimes there is something terrible lurking around that you cannot see until it is too late and you can do nothing else but scream and cling to a plastic duck. - Lemony Snicket
---------------------------------------------- If you subscribe, please friend request me as well. I love making new friends. :) Comment and subscribe, sweeties. It keeps me eager and I shall return. | | |
| I'm back, in more ways than one. I think a fresh start is needed. Please comment and subscribe, I'd love to hear from you all again, and to make some new faces smile as well. I have missed you. I've missed myself. Now I just miss some others. ANYWAY. Let's get started, shall we?
Sometimes people go around and invent alternate lives, with imagined friends, and imagined families. - The Forgotten +++ It would be nice to think that since I was 14, times have changed. Relationships have become more sophisticated. Females less cruel. Skins thicker. Instincts more developed. But there seems to be an element of that afternoon in everything that's happened to me since. All my romantic stories are a scrambled version of that first one. - High Fidelity
Can miles truly separate you from friends? If you want to be with someone you love, aren't you already there? - Richard Bach +++ One time, I was at this party... and I was sitting on the couch with Amanda McKinney. She was just sitting there, looking beautiful. So, I lean in to kiss her, and I realize I have gum in my mouth. So, I turn to spit it out and put it in a paper cup. I turn back, and Amanda McKinney throws up all over herself. I knew the moment it happened, it was a miracle. I could have been kissing her when she threw up. It would have scarred me for life. I may never have recovered. - Signs
There are a lot of things I can take, and some things I can't. But what I can't take is when my older brother, who's everything that I want to be, starts losing faith in things. I saw that look in your eyes last night. I don't ever want to see that look in your eyes again. - Signs +++ We hope to have you back in our arms soon, darlings, but in case this letter arrives before our return, know that we love you. It fills us with pride to know that no matter what happens in this life, that you three will take care of each other, with kindness and bravery and selflessness, as you always have. And remember one thing, my darlings, and never forget it: that no matter where we are, know that as long as you have each other, you have your family. And you are home - A Series Of Unfortunate Events
Dear reader, there are people in the world who know no misery and woe. And they take comfort in cheerful films about twittering birds and giggling elves. There are people who know that there's always a mystery to be solved. And they take comfort in researching and writing down any important evidence. But this story is not about such people. This story is about the Baudelaires. And they are the sort of people who know that there's always something. Something to invent, something to read, something to bite, and something to do, to make a sanctuary, no matter how small. And for this reason, I am happy to say, the Baudelaires were very fortunate indeed. - A Series Of Unfortunate Events +++ Everything that you wanted I have done. You asked that the child be taken. I took him. You cowered before me, I was frightening. I have reordered time. I have turned the world upside down, and I have done it all for you! I am exhausted from living up to your expectations of me. Isn't that generous? - The Labyrinth
I ask so little. Just let me rule you, and you can have everything that you want. - The Labyrinth +++ It is a truth universally acknowledged that when one part of your life starts going okay, another falls spectacularly to pieces. - Bridget Jones's Diary
I don't think you're an idiot at all. I mean, there are elements of the ridiculous about you. Your mother's pretty interesting. And you really are an appallingly bad public speaker. And, um, you tend to let whatever's in your head come out of your mouth without much consideration of the consequences... But the thing is, um, what I'm trying to say, very inarticulately, is that, um, in fact, perhaps despite appearances, I like you, very much. Just as you are. - Bridget Jones's Diary +++ You once said you liked me just as I am and I just wanted to say likewise. I mean there are stupid things your mum buys you, tonight's another... classic. You're haughty, and you always say the wrong thing in every situation and I seriously believe that you should rethink the length of your sideburns. But, you're a nice man and I like you. If you wanted to pop by some time that might be nice... more than nice. - Bridget Jones's Diary
Resolution number one: obviously, will lose twenty pounds. Number two: will find nice sensible boyfriend and not continue to form romantic attachments to alcoholics, workaholics, peeping-toms, megalomaniacs, emotional fuckwits or perverts. - Bridget Jones's Diary +++ They say nothing lasts forever; dreams change, trends come and go, but friendships never go out of style. - Sex And The City
Normal is the halfway point between what you want and what you can get. - Sex And The City +++ Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away. - Sex And The City
After a break-up, certain street, locations, even times of day are off-limits. The city becomes a deserted battlefield, loaded with emotional landmines. You have to be very careful where you step or you could be blown to pieces. - Sex And The City +++ Maybe the past is like an anchor holding us back. Maybe, you have to let go of who you were to become who you will be. - Sex And The City
That's the key to having it all: stop expecting it to look like what you thought it was going to look like. It's true of the fall lines, and it's true of relationships. - Sex And The City +++ No matter who broke your heart or how long it takes to heal, you'll never get through it without your friends. - Sex And The City
The most important thing in life is your family. There are days you love them, and others you don't, but in the end they're the people you always come home to. Sometimes it's the family you're born into and sometimes it's the one you make for yourself. - Sex And The City +++ I just realized, maybe it's maturity or the wisdom that comes with age, but the witch in Hansel and Gretel - she's very misunderstood. I mean, the woman builds her dream house and these brats come along and start eating it. - Sex And The City
You were right. I don't know if life is greater than death. But love was more than either. - Tristan And Isolde +++ Is it possible a man blinded by love might not see treachery right in front of him? - Tristan And Isolde
Throughout human history, we have been dependent on machines to survive. Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony. - The Matrix +++ I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure. - The Matrix
Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world? - The Matrix +++ I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you. - The Matrix
There is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft... When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife's right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness. - The Kite Runner +++ How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. - Annie
Elizabeth: And I suppose you just expect me to go weak at the knees, and fall into your arms and cry hysterically. And say we'll just figure this whole thing out. A bi-continental relationship with our daughters being raised here and there. And. And, you and I just picking up where we left off and growing old together. And. And. C'mon Nick what do you expect? To live happily ever after? Nick: Yes. To all of the above. Except you don't have to cry hysterically. Elizabeth: Oh, yes I do. - The Parent Trap +++ Annie and I met up at camp and, and we decided to switch places. I'm sorry, but I've never seen you and I've dreamt of meeting you my whole life and Annie felt the exact same way about Dad so, so we sort of just switched lives. I hope you're not mad because I love you so much, and I just hope that one day you could love me as me, and not as Annie. - The Parent Trap
Once upon a time, there was a quiet little village in the French countryside, whose people believed in Tranquilité - Tranquility. If you lived in this village, you understood what was expected of you. You knew your place in the scheme of things. And if you happened to forget, someone would help remind you. In this village, if you saw something you weren't supposed to see, you learned to look the other way. If perchance your hopes had been disappointed, you learned never to ask for more. So through good times and bad, famine and feast, the villagers held fast to their traditions. Until, one winter day, a sly wind blew in from the North... - Chocolat +++ You don't misbehave here. It's just not done, did you know that? If you don't go to confession, if you don't... dig your flowerbeds, or if you don't pretend, if you don't pretend... that you want nothing more in your life than to serve your husband three meals a day, and give him children, and vacuum under his ass, then... then you're... then you're crazy. - Chocolat
I'm not sure what the theme of my homily today ought to be. Do I want to speak of the miracle of Our Lord's divine transformation? Not really, no. I don't want to talk about His divinity. I'd rather talk about His humanity. I mean, you know, how He lived His life, here on Earth. His kindness, His tolerance... Listen, here's what I think. I think that we can't go around... measuring our goodness by what we don't do. By what we deny ourselves, what we resist, and who we exclude. I think... we've got to measure goodness by what we embrace, what we create... and who we include. - Chocolat +++ Dearest Cecilia, the story can resume. The one I had been planning on that evening walk. I can become again the man who once crossed the surrey park at dusk, in my best suit, swaggering on the promise of life. The man who, with the clarity of passion, made love to you in the library. The story can resume. I will return. Find you, love you, marry you and live without shame. - Atonement
We're not supposed to be friends, you and me. We're meant to be enemies. Did you know that? - The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas +++ The greatest weakness of most humans is their hesitancy to tell others how much they love them while they’re alive. -O. A. Battista
------------------------------------------------------------- Please comment and subscribe, darlings. It's what I love. I shall return the favour. | | |
